兼电影配乐和歌曲创作的Randy Edelman于1947年6月10日在新泽西的Paterson出生，他最初是被培养成为一名医生，但是很快他被自己喜欢的音乐改变了过来。
他毕业于辛辛那提大学，在70年代开始出现在公众的视野，作为一名歌曲创作者和音乐编排师，曾经为多名著名的歌星工作过，其中包括James Brown、Barry Manilow和The Carpenters。后来，凭着自身的能力，他成为了一名独立创作的歌者，大热的歌曲有Concrete and Clay和Uptown Uptempo Woman，曾经发行过几张成功的专辑，包括1972年The Laughter and the Tears、1974年Prime Cuts、1975年Farewell Fairbanks和1977年If Love Is Real"。
